For anyone new to the site, a little about me.
I've always been interested in science and engineering. After receiving a degree in Nuclear Engineering, I joined the Air Force, where I worked as a test engineer. It was then I discovered my first passion, high-energy theoretical physics, earning a master’s degree from Georgia State University.
I took many additional high-level graduate courses in quantum field theory and theoretical physics. It was great fun trying to understand how the universe worked at a basic level.
So how did the writing start?
Well, it’s still something of a mystery to me. But in January of 1999, something extraordinary and spontaneous happened. A vision formed that spoke of the importance of exercising the creative aspect in one’s life. In the process, I saw the world in an entirely different and artistic way. Suddenly a half written manuscript that had collected dust for years, became an obsession. It was completed within a year.
Now after four completed novels (and currently working on two more), the idea of creating “artistic visions” remains as compelling as ever. That’s not to say the study of physics has disappeared. Many of the characters in my novels are physicists and their ideas are often discussed as part of the story. But the real connection between writing and physics is that in both endeavors I’m trying to figure something out, trying to solve a mystery or puzzle. In both, one uses the creative process to underst and the fundamental aspects of nature and the universe, push and expand the boundaries of reality and hopefully cat ch a glimpse of the magic running just below the surface.
I currently live in Exeter, New Hampshire with my beautiful wife and three dogs. I remain totally fascinated by the ongoing interplay between science and art and convinced that creative writing is just another way of exploring the universe—understanding what makes it tick.
